As the first full-scale cooperation in higher education between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC) was jointly founded by Beijing Normal University (BNU) and Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). UIC is the first modern college in the Chinese mainland that upholds a liberal arts education, situated in Zhuhai city in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
With English as the medium of instruction, UIC's education is of international standards with high-calibre academic performance. The college has established the Faculty of Business and Management, School of Culture and Creativity, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Science and Technology, School of General Education, in addition to the Graduate School. Altogether UIC offers 29 undergraduate programmes, and is approved to offer nine research and five taught postgraduate programmes for over 9,000 students. Undergraduates receive HKBU Bachelor's Degrees and UIC Graduation Certificates, and postgraduates earn HKBU degrees.
UIC enrols students from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas. About 74.5% of the graduates from the Class of 2021 chose postgraduate studies home and abroad, 81% of which were admitted to the world’s top 100 universities. Many of the graduates have started their careers in Fortune 500 companies, government agencies or non-profit organisations. There are also alumni listed in Forbes 30 under 30.
