Nanjing Vocational College of Information Technology (NJCIT for short) is a high-level higher vocational college with Chinese characteristics, a national demonstration (backbone) higher vocational college, a high-quality higher vocational college of the Ministry of Education, a high-level higher vocational college in Jiangsu Province and an excellent higher vocational college in Jiangsu Province. The predecessor of the school is Nanjing Radio Industrial School, which was founded in 1953. It is the first electronic secondary professional school after the founding of People's Republic of China. Premier Zhou Enlai, and Vice Premier Chen Yi, Tan Zhenlin, Xi Zhongxun visited the college, and more than 3000 foreign guests and experts visited the college. Over the past 69 years, NJCIT has sent more than 70000 technical and skilled talents to the society.
Focusing on the three major clusters of information product manufacturing, information network and information technology services, NJCIT offers 51 majors, including 8 national key construction majors (groups), 2 brand specialty construction projects of colleges and universities in Jiangsu Province, 5 high-level backbone majors in Jiangsu Province, 3 provincial brand majors, 3 provincial characteristic majors, 4 provincial key construction specialty groups and 6 provincial key construction majors. NJCIT has 3 national training bases, 6 provincial training bases, 215 on-campus experimental training rooms and more than 400 off-campus training bases.
NJCIT has successively established friendly exchange relations with colleges and universities and educational institutions in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, South Korea, Singapore, India, Finland, Germany, New Zealand, South Africa, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia and other countries and regions, and expanded overseas exchange and learning channels for teachers and students. NJCIT is a higher vocational college in Jiangsu Province and even East China that has earlier carried out education for overseas students with academic degrees. Since 2014, NJCIT has recruited overseas students with academic degrees from Laos, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan and Ethiopia, and jointly cultivated communication technology talents adopting the model of School-Enterprise-School with China Communications Technology Co., Ltd. and Arsi University in Ethiopia. Since 2019, NJCIT has undertaken the sub-project of the China-South Africa High-level People-to-People Exchange Mechanism - South African Students Studying and Internship Program in China.

The Communication Technology specialty group are listed among the specialty group of the “Plan for the Construction of High-level Higher Vocational Colleges and Specialties with Chinese Characteristics”. The Communication Technology specialty is selected as the key construction major of the Construction Project of National Core Colleges and Universities in the “National Model Higher Vocational College Construction Plan”(it has been checked and accepted as “excellence”), the construction major of National Vocational Education Professional Teaching Resource Database, the construction major of International Engineering Education Paradigm, the class A major (checked and accepted as “excellence”) of the first-phase project of Jiangsu Provincial Colleges and Universities Brand Specialty Construction Project, the key construction major of high-level colleges and universities in Jiangsu Province.
The Communication Technology specialty aims at cultivating inter-disciplinary technical talents with a sense of social responsibility, innovative thinking, enterprising spirit and cooperation ability, who can dedicate themselves to their work and comply with the norms, who have the ability to apply information technology, who can meet the demand for inter-disciplinary talents created by ICT technology integration and hold the positions of 5G network planning and optimization scheme design, project management, project implementation, operation and maintenance in smart industries, and who have the ability of 5G network planning and optimization, communication engineering project management, operation and maintenance and information system integration.
1. Core Curriculum: Rail Transit Train Control, Signal Foundation of Rail Transit, Rail Transit Interlocking System, Data Network and Bus, Design and Construction of Communication Signal Engineering, LTE Technology of Rail Transit, Rail Transit Safety Technology.
2. Future Positions: Equipment installation and system debugging posts at signal system integration companies, System maintenance and operation management posts at rail transit operation companies, Design and development assistants of communication signal products, Technical service and support.
3. Characteristics and Advantages:
The major of Communication Signal Technology of Urban Rail Transit was set up in 2012, and since then, fruitful achievements have been made in majors’ construction, teaching reform, talent training, and scientific research and innovation. This major aims at training inter-disciplinary technical talents with IT application ability and sustainable development capacity to take up posts in rail transit communication and rail transit signal in the road transportation industry and to be able to engage in the installation, debugging and maintenance of communication and signal equipment as well as system operation maintenance and management.
1. Curriculum: Fundamentals of Electric Circuits, Analog Electronics Technology, Digital Electronics Technology, Fundamentals of Communication Technology, Single-chip Microcomputer Technology and Application, Inspection and Maintenance of Electronic Products.
2. Future Positions: Inspection of Electronic Equipment, Maintenance of Electronic Products, Production and Management of Electronic Equipment, Electronic Information System Integration, Design and Development of Electronic Products.
3. Characteristics and Advantages:
The major of Electronic Information Engineering Technology originated from the Radio Technology major set when the college was founded and is one of the traditional dominant majors of the college. After long-term development, the major has achieved fruitful results and strong influence in the cultivation of teaching staff, and the construction of courses, teaching materials and training conditions.
In 2006, the major was selected as Jiangsu Provincial Brand Specialty (recognized by Jiangsu Education Department in 2010). In 2008, it was rated as Jiangsu Provincial Key Construction Specialty of Demonstrative Higher Vocational Colleges. Since 2013, it cooperated with Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications to implement the “3+2” phased vocational and undergraduate education. In 2015, it was approved as a Class C project of the first phase project of Jiangsu Provincial Brand Specialty Construction. In 2018, the major became the Construction Specialty of Jiangsu Provincial high-level higher vocational colleges.

3. Characteristics and Advantages:
The Mechatronics Technology specialty has a long history. It has been opened since the establishment of the college in 1953. It was selected as Jiangsu Model College Construction Major in 2008. In 2012, it was awarded the Jiangsu Provincial Brand Major and the Core Major of Jiangsu Provincial Key Specialty Group. In 2017, it was awarded a High-level Backbone Major in higher vocational education in Jiangsu Province.
After decades of construction and development of this major, a large number of electromechanical professionals have been trained, and the teaching staff has also grown and improved rapidly. The current professional teaching team is an excellent teaching team in Jiangsu Province, with 2 National Technical Experts, 1 National Outstanding Teacher, 1 Young and Middle-aged Expert with “Outstanding Contribution” in Jiangsu Province, 1 provincial Skills Master Studio, 1 provincial May 1st Labor Medal winner, 2 provincial “333 Talent Project” training recipients, 2 Young and Middle-aged Academic Leader of provincial “Qinglan Project”, and 4 Backbone Teachers.

The major of Digital Media Application Technology inherits from the major of Game Software. Through nearly a decade of development, it has become the cradle to train professionals in digital media technology. In recent years, students of this major have won many awards in the virtual reality design and production events of National and International Vocational Colleges Skills Competitions.

The Software Technology specialty was established in 2003, which is a brand-featured specialty of higher education in Jiangsu Province, a specialty under the key construction of core higher vocational colleges in the “National Demonstrative Higher Vocational College Construction Plan”, and a high-level backbone specialty of Jiangsu Province. It was awarded Specialty under Key Construction of High-level Higher Vocational Colleges in Jiangsu Province in 2018.
It aims to cultivate compound technical talents who have a sense of social responsibility and professionalism, normative awareness and innovative thinking, and enterprising willingness and cooperation ability, and the ability to apply information technology, are oriented to the professional group of computer software engineering, computer programming, computer software testing, etc., and can engage in the design and development of software products, services and other positions.
Chinese Language program in NJCIT has a professional team of Chinese language teaching, who could develop the language teaching plan and curriculum outline. The team has rich experience in international Chinese language education and innovative ideas, then provides after-class tutoring services for students at different stages to help them learn and use Chinese well.
Students in this program could not only learn Chinese listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and then experience the traditional Chinese culture such as martial arts, calligraphy and paper-cutting in their spare time, but also could visit the famous historical sites in Nanjing such as Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum and Nanjing Museum.
